A New Asana

Asana project management software was created to help teams achieve a shared goal. Since its launch more than three years ago, it has made significant progress. Used by fast growing companies and global organizations, it has helped countless teams to achieve more, but opportunities still exist for it to be more useful. After talking with customers, making user experience studies and prototypes, the creators and developers decided to build a new Asana. They worked on for several months and has finally come up with something that can better empower teams to do great things together.

Aside from just coming up with a new look, the Asana team decided to rebrand themselves for several reasons. As time went on after their launch, they realized that they were not effectively conveying who they are and what they stand for. In the process of determining who they are, they agreed on four brand attributes: empowering, purposeful, quirky and approachable. With these, they have defined a brand that is consistent and more representative of who they are. So every time a customer interacts with any of their product, it will be the same brand.

What’s New

Asana work management software now has a new logo that showed the evolution of the three dots from being cool green in color arranged in a vertical line to having a warm coral color arranged close together. It also chose to have the theme of clarity punctuated by energy in a balanced way. Clarity brings a simple, clear experience. It is clearer for users where to start and how to find information they want with the My Tasks, My Inbox and Quick Add buttons. Advanced features unfold gradually, only when users need them. The improved project navigation brings out a calendar of upcoming milestones, high-level view of progress and status, and gallery of all files.

Energy in the new look is seen as users work and make progress. Elements of the interface animate and light up in delightful and non-obstructive ways when tasks are completed and results are achieved, allowing users to remain focused on their goals. Also, the new Conversations enable users to not only have conversations with everyone in the team, but also allows them to create tasks directly from these conversations. It is easy to follow and unfollow conversations, and add or remove followers. It is also easier for the new members, more intuitive especially for new users to know where to go and what to do with the clear layout and improved navigation.

New Look, Unchanging Goal

The new Asana may look more exciting, but the old core experience and functionality is still there to help users track their projects and tasks from start to finish. They will still be able to see progress, hit deadlines and produce great results. It is still easy to use and gets more powerful as users add their work. And things will get more exciting as the developers continue to convert the entire product with their new framework, Luna2. It will radically improve performance resulting in a speedier experience soon.
