Asana vs Trello – Which One is for Your Creative Team?

Today, people have access to a great number of online productivity tools, thanks to cloud computing technology. And the number of these tools continue to increase as they try to provide services to more and more businesses turning to the cloud for solutions. Still, every business is unique, and no single product provides a complete solution. While some tools focus on visual workflows, they tend to neglect reporting features. Others concentrate on collaboration, but do not prioritize exporting functionality.

Asana and Trello are popular team productivity tools, according to an article by Patrick Foster. Nevertheless, both these applications cannot cater to each and every request by its growing number of users. An innovative solution is Bridge24. It is an application that provides enhanced reporting and exporting capabilities to Asana, Trello, Basecamp, and AceProject. For instance, users can generate advanced reports with custom fields, and then easily export the reports to Excel, CSV or PDF formats.

The Benefits of Cloud-based Project Management Software

Cloud computing also brought about greater adoption of project management software by companies and organizations of all sizes in various industries. They are able to keep track of day-to-day tasks, so they know the status of their projects, and to a degree, the health of their business, at any given day. Online project management software, such as Asana and Trello, help small businesses manage its teams better, whether in-house or working remotely. They can run their business more flexibly, with greater automation and less manual administration. Other benefits include greater organization, enhanced communication, and keeping everyone on the same page.

Trello

Trello is an online project management tool that is based on a visually modular system of boards, lists and cards. Boards are spaces that can contain projects. Within each board are lists that can describe the different stages of a project. Within each list are cards that represent individual tasks. For example, a creative team can create a board that represent all their blog posts. They can create separate lists and label them as ‚ÄòIn Progress,’ ‚ÄòNeeds Editing,’ and ‚ÄòPublished.’ Cards are individual blog posts, and can be moved across the different lists, depending on its status.

A card shows basic information while on the list. When clicked on, it opens to show more details. Users can add members to indicate other people involved with the task, such as the writer, editor, and publisher. They can add notes to provide instructions or ask questions. Users can also set a deadline, attach a file, or add labels or checklists.

Is Trello for your Creative Team?

Trello is a popular option for creative teams. Creative minds usually prefer tasks set out for them in simple columns. Trello is for you if you prefer:

  • A simple interface with intuitive drag and drop functionality
  • To provide the team with a clear idea of what is going on exactly, and at what stage each project is at
  • A top-down project management view ideal for team leaders who monitor work without getting into specifics
  • The ability to drill down into lists and cards if required
  • Compartmentalized modules that facilitate easy communication between different teams, and
  • Strong integration capabilities with a range of content management systems and e-commerce builders.

Many Shopify businesses use Trello for its handy app integration. WordPress also offers a solid plugin. If your team is into design, blogging or creative e-commerce business, Trello is highly recommended.

Asana

Asana is an online project tracking and collaboration software for teams. Like Trello, users can manage multiple projects in a central location. They see screens that tell them what their tasks are and when it is due. They can easily follow the progress of their projects, but not with boards, lists, and cards, although there is also an option to view a project this way.

Usually, users see on the side of Asana a navigation bar that denotes various roles, teams, and projects. ‚ÄòMy Tasks’ display a screen that provides an overview of everything assigned to the user. Other screens include Inbox, Dashboard, Lists, Calendar, and Files. Other views aside from Board view are Timeline, Conversations, and Progress. The variety of options can fit a creative mind of any type.

Is Asana for your Creative Team?

Asana provides more views than Trello. Some find the application complicated, but the user interface makes it easy to find anything. The simplified UI provides easy navigation in just a few clicks. Asana is for you if you prefer:

  • A more flexible platform
  • More project management features to help track and streamline projects
  • A quicker way to add tasks
  • Email integration
  • More features to discover for later use, and
  • Using Zapier services for integration.

Asana requires more time to learn, but also provides more ways to manage projects. However, WordPress plugins for the application are poorly reviewed. There are fewer options for e-commerce builders as well. If your team is into marketing campaigns and events launch business, Asana can help your team manage creative requests effectively.

Try them out first

Trello is a free application, and Asana is free for up to 15 users. Therefore, the best way to find out which online project management software fits your team’s needs is to try them out both. Then decide from there. Good luck!
