Safari Books Online LLC was formed when O’Reilly Media and The Pearson Technology Group, two companies in the education and technology industry, joined forces in 2001. The joint venture was about creating a digital library that would contain and make available to users on a subscription basis the best technology books from leading authors and publishers. Safari Books Online has materials from the leading technology book publishers such as O’Reilly, Addison-Wesley, Prentice Hall, John Wiley & Sons, Adobe Press, Sams, Apress, Wrox, Microsoft Press, Cisco Press, Manning Publications, Packt, QUE, Oracle Press, and Syngress, among others. The categories of books include desktop and web applications, digital media, engineering, IT and software development, business, and professional development. Users can also select books by product such as AutoCAD or by vendor such as Autodesk. Aside from completed works, this comprehensive digital library also offers Rough Cuts, which are developed manuscripts but not yet published.
