Student Requirements
Taking the PMP certification exam has certain eligibility requirements. Since this course is a preparation for that exam, students should have experience as a project manager. They should have registered with the PMI and have completed the application. Also, dedication to complete the course and pass the exam is expected.
Course Objectives and Learnings
By the end of the Prep for PMP course, students would have listened to over 93 lectures and 20.5 hours of content. They can discuss confidently what is contained in the PMBOK 5th Edition. They fully understand the PM process and all the knowledge areas, which they can explain. They have memorized the formulas for earned value management and would be able to calculate float for project network diagrams. They can demonstrate, compare and contrast processes, knowledge areas, theories, formulas, charts and PM best practices. Taking this course is an equivalent 35 contact hours of PM education or 35 PDUs.
Target Audience
The Prep for PMP course is for project managers preparing to pass the PMP certification exams. This is an intensive study of the PMBOK Guide and not an introductory course on project management.
Curriculum/Chapters
The Prep for PMP course is divided into 15 sections. The first section discusses how the student should prepare to ultimately pass the PMP exam by learning how to utilize the course properly. This is done through several minutes of video lectures, an Excel worksheet, an end-of-module quiz and a course workbook. The second section is about organizational influence and the project lifecycle, while the third section examines the PM process. Sections 4 to 13 discuss the 10 knowledge areas while section 14 is about the subject of PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The last section contains the four practice exams totalling 400 questions and a video about course wrap up.

Joseph Phillips has been a project manager since the mid-90s and has managed multi-million dollar projects. He has taken various roles as a PM consultant, educator, technology consultant, business owner, technical writer and author. His credentials include PMP, Project+, CTT+ and Microsoft-certified systems engineer and trainer. As a trainer, he has taught project management, requirements gathering, business writing and goal setting seminars among others in many countries.
