Overview Presentation

Leantime is an open source project management system that enables users to manage projects from ideas to delivery following specific methodologies. It combines lean product development and agile project management into one platform so that users have the right features from start to finish. Designed to support best practices in design thinking, lean canvas, and modified Scrum, users go through the whole product/project lifecycle in a consistent way. Visibility, adaptability, and fast delivery is inherently promoted through features and tools available in the system.

Features, Benefits, Strengths

  • Research and Ideation – Leantime adheres to 3 specific methodologies, design thinking, lean, and agile. This is manifested through its Research Manager and Idea Manager. The Research Manager is a tool to test, support, and verify that the team is building a product with purpose. It follows business and lean principles to make sure that your team is building a product that your customer needs. The Idea Manager is a drag-and-drop workspace where you can store ideas, share them with the team, discuss, collaborate, and move it from idea to validation.
  • Planning – The open source project management system includes a Roadmap feature with Gantt chart view to track milestones and set goal dates. This makes it easy for everyone involved to see the defined goals, its phases and approximate timelines. It also has a Calendar view where you can plan tasks, meetings, timelines and milestones. The Backlog feature is where you and your team can break the tasks into smaller, more manageable to-dos that can be easily assigned and discussed.
  • Deliver and Execute – Leantime includes a Project Dashboard that easily displays milestone progress, project progress and estimated completion date. It uses intelligent algorithms that recommend which tasks should be prioritized and worked on immediately. A To Do Manager based on the Kanban board allows you to move tasks from New, In Progress, Blocked, Ready for , and Done columns. Customization is available in the Business plan. The Timesheet Manager allows you to track the time spent on your to-dos. Other features include customization for white labeling, and multiple user role types for security. It also integrates with Slack and Mattermost.

Testimonials

Sheldon K. described Leantime as a fast and clean software. For him, it has all the features that bigger, more expensive platforms have. The PM software helps him organize his business tasks with his team, and allowing him to see right away what is going on in his organization.

Jeff C. described the open source PM system as a great product for managing projects. He likes Leantime for its clean interface and layout, easy setup and tracking features.

Alex V. stated that Leantime covers all the bases for project management with its set of features, including a timesheet. It also has great reporting and metrics that provide him with valuable insights.

Why Leantime

Leantime is described as an opinionated project management software because it already follows certain methodologies that enables users to manage their projects successfully without them having to choose some other methods anymore. Instead of providing more flexibility and customizations, it keeps users within a proven route, preventing them from diverting and digressing, so that they remain focused on their project goal. It is an intentional system that is meant to walk users through the life cycle stages of research, ideation, planning, and then doing, nothing else, nothing more.

Company Info

Leantime Systems, Inc., is a privately held computer software company with headquarters in Concord, CA, USA. It was founded in 2018 by Gloria Folaron; Marcel Folaron, CEO; and Ryan Trout, COO. As early as 2015, the founders were looking for a system to help them with their requirements. However, what they saw on the market were systems that could do only a little of what they wanted, or way more than what they needed and requiring so much setup. And none were very lean either. So, they designed and built a project management system that is based on the fundamentals of lean, agile, and design thinking.
