Hello Project Managers! I’m Mackenzie, and today I’m reviewing the project management software Nifty. The team behind Nifty says it’s an ideal choice for remote workers, small business owners, and large organizations alike because of the strong collaborative features and messaging capabilities that can instantly connect teams of all sizes. (Black and White footage) "Say! Is it my imagination, or is it getting crowded in here?" (Off screen voice) "Oh!
I've got plenty of room." But what are the exact advantages of having Nifty, and are there any disadvantages? Well, fear not for I have checked it out so you don’t have to. Let’s start with the advantages of using Nifty. The first one being it can break down complex projects by allowing users to add subtasks within primary tasks. This way everyone on your team can link and visualize task dependencies quickly as part of a larger project goal. Speaking of tasks, Nifty offers multiple view types.
From Gantt charts to Kanban boards, there are numerous ways to view tasks – including three types of short and long-term project goal visualizations through Roadmaps, Milestones, and Workload features. While you work on a project, you’ll also have access to enhanced collaboration features within the Discussion space. This includes instant messaging to task tagging, and even the ability to create action items directly from chat conversations. Along with that, Nifty has a built-in time-tracking function.
Not only can users track their time spent on tasks, but view their time breakdowns over extended periods and access real-time insights about time tracking across projects and tasks. Not every PM software offers such a tool, so it’s definitely a bonus. Also, did I mention there are numerous personalization options? Because there are. Nifty users will feel empowered by being able to organize task columns, customize board views, create automations, and build original settings.
This way, every project board feels unique to each team and individual user’s needs. So it’s safe to say that all these features are great, but what if you’re not familiar with Nifty as a program or are new to project management altogether? Luckily, Nifty’s final pro is that it offers users pre-made project templates based on intended use, including templates for client collaboration, design and development, marketing, and more. Alright. Alright.
Now that we know the benefits of having Nifty, let’s now talk about the downsides. First off, there’s a slight learning curve for it. While that is expected for new users of any software, mastering Nifty’s layout and more advanced functionality can be time-consuming – especially for users who are new to project management software at large. Also, it has limited direct integrations. While Nifty offers over 2000+ apps, most of those are only available through 3rd party integration services.
And a lot of those indirect integrations include an additional cost, which can add up quickly for teams who are operating on a small budget. On top of that, users will have to occasionally manage authorization because integrations through third-party apps will need to be re-authorized from time to time, which can be annoying for some people. And lastly, there can be specific functionality limitations. Users with particular project management needs may struggle with Nifty’s limited functionality concerning tagging, file recovery, and file conversion.
Not to mention, Nifty currently does not allow users to tag tickets for tasks, bugs, or subtasks, which can complicate the ticket management process for more technical teams who rely on the system. And that’s a wrap on this video. Sure, the program is not as effective as the name implies, but it can still be a great option for those looking for something different in the Project Management sphere. However, don’t just take my word for it. If you feel like you need more information about Nifty, then I recommend reading this article.
