PMP Exam Prep Questions, Answers, & Explanations – A Book Review
PMP Exam Prep Questions, Answers, & Explanations: 1000+ PMP Practice Questions with Detailed Solutions is the updated book by Christopher Scordo that is aligned with the 5th edition of the PMBOK Guide. It updates a previous edition published in 2009 that says 800+ PMP Practice Questions in the front cover. The latest edition contains new practice exam content and refinements such as Project Stakeholder Management questions and current PMBOK references.
The book comes in paperback and Kindle formats. A total of 422 pages results in a text of about 0.8 inches thick. The publication date of this revised fifth edition is not clear, but information from the author’s website seems to indicate that it was in January 2012. The green-themed front cover has the title on the upper part while the subtitle, edition and author’s name is on the lower part. What Customers Say
Customer joannejk on the B&N website gives it a highly recommended review. She describes the book as an excellent study tool whether one is studying for the examinations or simply brushing up on one’s PM skills.
Carol Scheffer posted on Amazon that the questions on this book were very challenging and more difficult than what was on the test. She admits that it was very helpful though as she passed the PMP test on the first attempt.
Shonte McDowell shared that she took the exams one month after she bought the book. She passed and is convinced that having this resource was the main reason she got through.
Content, Approach, Style
PMP Exam Prep Questions, Answers, & Explanations is divided in four parts. It has an Introduction, Practice Exams & Quizzes, PMP Formula Cheat Sheet, and Additional Resources. The Introduction gives an overview of the PMP exam. The second part fills most of this exam prep book with 18 Lite Mock Exams and 11 knowledge area quizzes including one for Project Management Framework in addition to the ten knowledge areas. The last two parts contain PMP formulas and exam-taking tips.
The test answers are cross referenced on the PMBOK, so explanations can be studied further. The quizzes will take only one hour so reviewers will find it more convenient to take and slip it within their busy schedule. The practice tests on specific knowledge areas can help those studying to gauge which area they need to study more. Some readers found a few typographical and grammatical errors disconcerting as they study in all seriousness. It is generally well-written and arranged though, if not for these minor editing flaws.
Why Buy the Book
The value of PMP Exam Prep Questions, Answers, & Explanations comes from the quantity and quality of the practice tests. Reviewers comment that the questions were harder than the official test. However, as readers try to learn not only the correct answer but in analyzing the question, they were able to prepare themselves better. Also, the arrangement of the short quizzes and mock exams made it possible for readers to actually take it without spending four straight hours of their time. Incidentally, this prep book remains in Amazon’s top 60 Best Sellers for PM.
