Latest AceProject Enhancements for the Summer of 2013

AceProjectThe sunny months of June and July are great times for vacation and relaxation. However, the AceProject development team is using all the time and sunshine to further improve the software for its clients. Instead of taking a time out, they used the time to work literally on “Time “: time sheets, time clock, time reports, among others.

Less Time Spent, More Work Done

Enhancements have been made in the design of the user interface and workflow such that users have to use less clicks to accomplish more time entry details. For instance, users can now edit time items directly in their weekly timesheet screen, aptly called the “My Time ” page. They are given the option to navigate quickly through the time boxes with the Tab/Shift+Tab keys and arrow keys.

AceProject supports two ways in filling in timesheets: a manual way and the automatic time clock way. Now, users assigned with “Time Clock Only ” time entry option can edit fields such as Task, Time Type, and Comment on rejected time items. Therefore, correction is easier and will not take more time or work than necessary.

Numerous options have been added for time entry, approval, tasks, and reports. For example, copying or deleting time item options have been added in Time Approval. A “Copy + Stay on current week ” option has been added to facilitate better the copying of time items. On Task Lists, tasks can be filtered by a single user such as the creator or joined by others using the AND/OR filter option. For creating custom task reports, “No Clients Specified ” and “No User Group Specified ” filter options have been added. Still on task options but for mobile devices, a Task Auto-assignment option is now supported.

Intuitive Design and Screen Layout

The design and layout of the screens contribute to more ease of use. For clients who do not have to record time, for example, the interface has been simplified for them. This is also applicable to those who do not run time reports using AceProject. The Time module can now be disabled at the account and user levels, and the Expense module at the user level. These changes correspond to a menu and pull-downs that no longer display items related to said modules.

AceProject has been enhanced again to be more intuitive by anticipating the possible projects and tasks that the user might want to record time on in the current week. These “Proposed Time Items ” are based on previous “non-zero time ” weekly timesheets. They only become real time items as soon as time entries are added into them.

Also, the “Add time to this project ” drop-down menu now supports project search by keyword. In the “New Time Item, ” the Task drop-down supports keyword search likewise.

Out in the Sun but Still In the Loop

Summer time is a special time where people are usually outdoors. AceProject Mobile is an application fully compatible with iPhone and Android smartphones and tablets. This powerful but convenient tool is further enhanced for improved stability and usability. For instance, Task lists now display a document icon that can be clicked if the task has an attached document. The My Time and Time Clock icons are now added to the toolbar and the left panel menu now shows these items. Also, an icon for “Add Task ” was added to the toolbar for easier task creation. The software now handles better 768 pixel height resolution common in tablets.

More Now, Much More Soon

Other improvements have been made aside from these enhancements. For example, AceProject now has better handling of links to documents in email notifications and in the handling of redirection after saving a task. Bug fixes have been completed for improved iPhone support, too.

In the near future, there will be more enhancements for the Time Clock system because of an encouraging increase of use by clients in recording time the new way. Other ways to simplify the interface are in the pipeline. Soon, extraneous menu items will be removed to improve visibility. There will also be more ways to configure user preference to provide better contextual assistance and greater user experience with AceProject.
