Intervals New Features – Task Checklists and Kanban Board

intervals-logoIntervals online time tracking, task management and project management software has released its October 2014 update with exciting new features. Since the beginning, its creators designed and developed the software to solve the real challenges they face daily as they work on their projects. After more than a decade, it has become the preferred tool by many companies in over 100 countries to track their time, manage their tasks, and give them reports to make sure they are doing their businesses profitably. The latest update includes new features of checklists, snapshot reports, a Kanban board, and more.

Task Checklists

Intervals has comprehensive task management, capable of managing the life and workflow of tasks with features such as document uploads, versioning, notes, and more. The new Task Checklists adds even more capabilities to an already formidable set of functionality. When there is a need to break down a task to smaller to-do lists, instead of creating one task per to-do, users can create a task checklist where they can mark items complete by clicking on a check box. Thus, it is easy to see at a glance what has been completed and what is still incomplete.

In the advanced editor, users can create checklists similarly as they create number or bullet lists. By pressing the Enter key, a new line and a new check box is created. Indentation creates nested checklists. They can be used as an alternative to subtasks and for creating sublists to break down to-dos even further. Also, one task can be assigned to multiple assignees responsible to particular items in the checklists. Other scenarios exist where checklists help in managing the completion of tasks.

Task Snapshot Report

In conversations with Intervals customers, the development team realized that some were looking for metrics and data that are not yet readily obtainable as a report. To make things simpler for the customer, they created the Task Snapshot Report. It answers questions like how many tasks did a team close last week on each milestone. Or how many tasks is a team starting next week, which can be filtered by assignee. Users can also get a breakdown of tasks due on following months filtered by project. Like other Intervals report, it can be segmented and filtered, but the timeline is either the start date, due date or closed date. The report will analyze and display the numbers on tasks and plot the date on a timeline based on one of the three time criteria.

Kanban Board

Intervals follows a simpler project management cycle of predict, track, learn. From this, it provides tools just right for most companies to get work done. In this October 2014 update, it is introducing a new task management tool following Lean and Agile practices. Kanban was first introduced in the 1950s by Toyota to help control their production system. It made them more efficient. The concept of visual cards has since been revisited and applied to Agile software development. Today, it is an online tool that provides an overview of work items and workflow.

The Intervals Kanban Board works by plugging into a user’s existing account and providing a new straightforward interface in managing his or her tasks. It is rendered by selecting a project or milestone. Columns are based on a user’s list of task statuses such as Open, Verified, or Under Client . Each card represents a task that can be dragged and dropped across the columns to signify a change of status and a movement in the workflow. It is a highly visible tool which can help identify which tasks are holding the project back or which ones are close to completion. It also presents a high level view of progress to management and simply a great way to visualize task workflow.
