Fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibilities in Project Management

The core purpose of every business or project is to generate profit but this is not the only objective. When you do business or start any project then a large number of people get attached to it and depends on it either directly or indirectly. The word stakeholder is used for all those people who have any relation with our project. They include government, customers, consumers, suppliers, distributors etc. Apart from generating profit, it is also your responsibility to take care of these stakeholders as your any wrong decision can affect their lives. Previously, organizations used to adopt every mean to generate profit without thinking the adverse effect of the process or strategies they use on their surrounding environment and people living their but now a days, it has become mandatory for every organization to fulfill their corporate social responsibility.

Corporate social responsibility is a very common term and it indicates your duties being a citizen of the society. The country or region you live in gives you opportunity to start your project and complete it successfully. It also provides you raw material, suppliers, distributors etc for making your products. You earn huge amount of money through your projects so it is your ethical responsibility to return back something to your society.

Fulfilling corporate social responsibility is necessary for every business either it is a sole proprietorship, partnership or corporation. As we are talking about project management so we will discuss corporate social responsibilities with respect to project management. Following are some of the corporate social responsibilities which you need to fulfill while working on any project.

Taking Care of Process

Firstly, you should take care of all the processes which you adopt during your project. I have personally seen large number of project managers that uses those processes which are very dangerous for our environment. Some processes results in dangerous waste material which is usually dumped in to the soil where it affects its fertility. Some other processes releases smoke in to the air contaminating our environment. Do you know that ozone layer that protects us from the adverse effects of ultraviolet rays is also damaged from certain areas due to the use of inappropriate and dangerous chemicals as well as processes by certain organizations? So, be very careful in selecting the process in your project.

Selection of Location

If your projects require the manufacturing or production of anything then you may select the far away areas for this instead of selecting any location at crowded place so that people may remain safe in case any unwanted accident happens at your workplace.

Save the Resources

You can contribute to the society by saving the natural or other resources as much as possible so that other people may also get benefit from them.

Follow the Legal Matters

Being a project manager you should only take those projects that involve legal things. Moreover, you should also follow all the rules and regulations passed by the government.

Take part in Social Work

You may also return back to your society by taking part in social work such as constructing a school or hospital, providing job to the people of your locality etc.

Fulfilling corporate social responsibilities is in your own benefit as its helps you to create a good image in the mind of customers.
