Online Project Management software are gaining momentum and are becoming irreplaceable assets to Project Managers every day. Simply put, these are implemented as web applications and can be downloaded, installed and accessed over the internet. Their core capabilities are project management tasks such as, managing and scheduling activities and resources, communication among stakeholders and project collaboration among teams which are often geographically dispersed. They are multi user, easy to learn and intuitive in nature, easy to install, manage user access and maintain in general.

There are various levels of “FREE” online project management software available in the market. While almost every provider may claim to give their product for free, there is a degree of usage that is provided for free, either some advanced features may be limited for paying users or a free version is made available only for a trial period. Reports, to do lists, milestone set-up and multiple project management and user management are the features that stand out.


Wrike – offers a 30 day free trial for unlimited users. Its key features are task assignment and reassignment, task sharing, time tracking,  real-time cross project reports/project status, intelligent email-engine, CSV-export and import templates enable to share projects with other PM software like MS Project.


Clarizen– has a 30 day free trial offer with unlimited number of projects, users and tasks or storage. It comes with features like time and budget tracking, issues, resource and expense management among other features. It allows to import schedules from other software like MS project, however export to MS project is not built in. It allows for export to Excel making it easier to work with data in other application.

  1. Basecamp is one of the most widely used PM apps out there and has all the basic functionality you can expect. We use it in combination with since this app allows us to take our data in Basecamp to a new level.
